Fall 2001

I was looking forward to go to Forssa 'Pick Nick', which is I think the largest car meeting in Finland. Charger though that's it. Engine started pushing a lot of smoke, smelled bad and power was down. Well its time for early hibernation....I bought 'Don Taylor', so lets pull an engine.

After disassembling the engine it discovered good and bad things. Good things are that engine is original, so called 'matching numbers' engine, so it has a good forged crankshaft and other engine parts are also strong. Bad news were that engine is pretty badly worn, so I have to do complete overhaul to resurrect it.

I don't know if it is unusual or not, but this 383 still had original main and connecting rod bearings stamped 10:67! Pistons were also original parts. So at least the downstairs has been working for 33 years!

12.8.2001 Engine removal

My cousin Kimmo owns a repair shop with car lift. Kimmo helped me a lot with engine removal, and probably will help with installation also (I hope)

We found the engine!

It is a dirty piece of metal.

The disassembled engine block after first cleaning. There is still some original paint left on engine block. It just wasn't visible from above.
